Aviation Psychology
Postdoctoral Fellowship
Program Description
The Aviation Psychology/Human Factors Fellowship is a one-year post-doctoral fellowship with two primary training goals. The first goal is to train Air Force psychologists to provide direct aeromedical support to aircrew and be prepared for a follow-on assignment in an embedded aviation psychology/operational psychologist assignment. This is accomplished by placing the fellow on non interference aeronautical orders, flying with the 58th Special Operations Wing, and partnering with the 377 MDG/SGP to provide direct care of aircrew. The second goal is to train Air Force psychologists to be human factors experts with a focus on Safety. Human factors are the primary cause of every type of mishap, fatality, and work-related injury in the Air Force.
The fellowship trains psychologists to provide direct support to Air Force Safety Investigation Boards, conduct aerospace and organizational safety assessments, conduct human factors research, and apply psychological principals for mishap prevention. Successful completion of the fellowship awards the Aviation Psychology shred out. Aviation Psychologists support MAJCOM, Wing and/or Group efforts, and implement specialized training to optimize the mission where assigned.
